A tick is a spider-like arthropod parasite that feeds on the blood of animals and humans. When sucking blood, ticks can transmit viruses, bacteria, parasites and even venom. Note down in your diary the date of the tick bite, the bite spot on your body and the area where you got the tick bite.

If the tick has been on your body for more than eight hours, it may already be full. But even when the tick has been properly removed, there is still a chance of infection. Keep a close eye on the bite spot. Does a red ring appear around the bite spot, or do you feel unwell? If so, contact your GP immediately.
