Snowboard bindings

Snowboard bindings are the central hub of your equipment. They keep your feet attached to your board so you can whizz down the mountain without worrying, and without crashing! Whether you are a hardcore racer or a beginner: there is a binding for every boarder. However, you do have to consider their construction, flex rating, and type. If you go for high speeds and maximum control, you will need stiffer bindings. If you are a freestyler or a beginner who just wants a lot of flexibility and comfort, choose bindings that are more flexible

FAQ – veelgestelde vragen over snowboardbindingen

There are three types of snowboard bindings:

  • Step-on bindings: it's all in the name. These are simply bindings that you step on to. You snap your boot and snowboard together with a click system. If you go out with a group of skiers, for example, step-on bindings are very handy because you can easily click your board on and off. Important: you do need shoes compatible with the click system, step-on boots!
  • Strap bindings: this is the most popular kind. These bindings consist of two straps: fasteners that you use to attach your boots to your board. The back of these bindings is higher, providing extra support at your heels.
  • Hybrid bindings: the perfect blend of step-on and strap bindings. You put your heel on your binding and click it into place. Then you attach the front of your boot to your board with one big strap. The advantage is that you combine the stability of your heel with the dynamism of a strap at the front.

Going for convenience and speed? Go for step-on bindings. Do you prefer to adjust your equipment to the best possible position? Then strap bindings are for you. Would you like the best of both worlds? Then opt for hybrid bindings!

You adjust your snowboard bindings in three easy steps: position your board in the right direction, use the space between your bindings (stance) correctly, and choose the angle of your bindings.

  • The direction: you place your left or your right foot in front, depending on which foot is your personal dominant foot. If you are unsure which direction to use your board in, use the inscriptions as a starting point. If you hold the board vertically with the lettering in the right direction, you’ll be fine!
  • The stance: most boards have a recommended stance indication. If you feel you need more space, you can carefully move your back foot backwards.
  • The angle: beginners or boarders staying on the slopes should use an angle of +18° at the front and -6° at the back. If you do freestyle snowboarding, put your front foot at a +15° angle and your back foot at a -15° angle.

Choosing the size of your binding depends on the size of your boots. Each binding normally lists a designated shoe size. And just as you try on snowboard boots, it is recommended that you also try on bindings with your boots on before buying them!
