Ski goggles

Skiing or snowboarding without ski goggles is basically a no go if you want to get down the mountain safely. For a start, ski goggles protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and the bright sunlight reflected by the white snow. Wind, splashing snow, and rain won’t stand a chance either.

So, what makes ski goggles so different from ordinary sunglasses? They fit and protect much better because they fit snugly around the contours of your face and are made of incredibly strong plastic. The lenses will not break on impact either, unlike ordinary sunglasses. In other words, they are virtually indestructible! 

Experiencing four seasons in one day is the rule rather than the exception in the mountains. There are ski goggles with different types of lenses, in different colours, to ensure you can see properly at all times. The rule is that the sunnier the weather, the more the snow reflects the sun, and the more light your lenses have to be able to block out. Here’s a summary:

• Not much sun: neutral blue, light yellow, or orange.
• Sunny: pink or red.
• Very bright sun: grey, green, brown, or black.

The handiest ski goggles include an additional lens or have photochromic/transition lenses. The latter automatically adjust to the amount of light or UV light. The lens darkens in bright light.
