Ski & snowboard trousers

A good pair of ski trousers can make or break your winter holiday. They’re super stretchy, giving you the freedom of movement you need to go down the slopes with panache. And most of all, it protects you from the elements because it can get cold and wet out there. You can choose between hardshell trousers that are waterproof, breathable, and unlined or softshell trousers that breathe well but are slightly less waterproof. Do you have any other specific requirements? Think reinforced legs, pockets with waterproof zips, removable suspenders, or an adjustable waistband. Anything you wish! The right trousers are waiting for you.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about ski and snowboard trousers

Ski trousers not only protect you from having a soggy bottom when you fall, but also ensure that you can zip down the slopes in total comfort and freedom. The following features are most important:

  • Waterproofing: waterproofing is very important, especially for beginners who tend to fall more often. The water column indicates how much water the fabric of your trousers can handle. A rating of 1,500 mm is considered the minimum, while there is almost no chance of wetness at 20,000 mm. It is important to note, however, that the waterproofing decreases as you move around more. If you heavily slalom down the slopes, it’s wise to choose a higher water column.
  • Insulation: even if you are on the move, it can be seriously cold on top of the mountain, especially in the early hours or at night. Trousers that insulate well will retain your body heat longer. Trousers with braces provide even better body coverage and protect you from the wind.
  • Breathability: if you want to be nice and warm when it’s cold, you also want to have sufficient ventilation for when the weather gets warmer. Trousers with good ventilation allow your sweat to escape faster.
  • Comfort/freedom of movement: trousers with more flexibility are a must, especially if you have your sights set on more challenging slopes. Ski trousers with stretch yield better and stay in shape longer. A softshell is less waterproof, but gives you a lot more freedom of movement.

Skiers’ needs differ from snowboarders. You move differently and therefore run different risks. And although you can basically just snowboard in good ski trousers, it is still wise to opt for dedicated snowboard trousers. But what’s the actual difference? We’ll set it out for you.

Ski trousers often have a tighter fit than snowboard trousers, allowing you to glide down the slopes more aerodynamically. They also often have reinforcement around the ankles, which ensures your boots don’t pinch or cut there. In turn, snowboard trousers have reinforced areas at the knees and buttocks. Because when you fall, you tend to land on those specific body parts. The trouser legs are usually slightly wider too. And because you have to lean forward more, snowboard trousers are also a bit looser around your crotch. Do your trousers still feel too tight? Then go up a size!
