Ski & snowboard jackets

Apart from whether your ski jacket looks good with the rest of your winter sports outfit, there are a few more criteria that every jacket should fulfil:

• Snow- and windproof: when you are speeding down the slopes and the snow is swirling around your ears, it can get really cold. Choose a jacket with a water-repellent layer or one with a waterproof membrane to keep out wetness and the wind. 
• Breathability: skiing or snowboarding requires physical effort. And it’s good to feel warm on the mountain, but no one wants to be sweaty. Revolutionary waterproof membranes like GORE-TEX keep water out, but allow perspiration to escape from your jacket.
• Comfort and freedom of movement: a jacket that is too tight restricts your freedom of movement. When trying a jacket on, perform the same movements you would during your winter sports and wear the clothes you would normally wear under your jacket. That way, you can be sure you have enough room and that the jacket is flexible enough.
• For beginners: you’ll often come face to face with the snow, especially if you are skiing or snowboarding for the first time. A snow catcher (an elastic band inside your jacket) prevents snow from getting inside your jacket or trousers.
