FAQ – Frequently asked questions about sunglasses

No sunglasses, no summer look, but, they do more than that. Good sunglasses block out the harmful UV-A and UV-B rays from the sun. Always wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection (UV400) in sunny weather or if the light is very bright. Sunglasses with no or little UV protection do not block UV rays, which can damage your eyes.

The best sunglasses for you are tailored to your activity (daily use to winter sports), the weather (cloudy to bright sunlight), and your personal preferences (polarising, photochromic, or reflective).

Sunglass lenses are divided into four different categories. The brighter the sunlight, the less light the lenses of your sunglasses have to let through. But also: the closer to the sun (in the mountains, for example), the higher the category of your lenses should be.

Polarising sunglasses have a special film on the lenses that filters out glare and horizontal reflections. This makes colours and contrasts more visible. They’re ideal for water sports enthusiasts and snow hikers.

Choosing a pair of sunglasses is not always easy because how do you know which frame suits you best? To answer that question, we look at the shape of your face.

  • Aviator glasses are heart-shaped and therefore best suited to a… heart-shaped face. But this model also looks good on an oval or square face.
  • Butterfly sunglasses have lenses that are narrower at the bottom than at the top; in other words, the shape of a butterfly. It flatters your features the most if you have an oval face.
  • The ‘cat eye’ sunglasses also suit an oval face, thanks to their rounded lenses and the tapered outer edge of the frame.
  • Wayfarer sunglasses (the standard model with a plastic frame) do not bend to the contours of your face, so they are suitable for almost everyone with an elongated, oval, or round face.
  • Oval-shaped sunglasses suit just about every face but are especially popular among people with an elongated or oval face. The soft lines of the glasses beautifully juxtapose with sharp facial features and sloping jawlines.
  • Frames with rectangular or square lenses suit oval and elongated faces well because of the contrasting angles of your face and the accessory. They make round faces appear narrower and longer.
  • Round sunglasses look good on oval, round, and heart-shaped faces because they visually balance out the overall look. If you have a square face, the round shape of the glasses breaks up the square lines within the face.
