Bike helmets

The safer you cycle, the better. And, obviously, a bike helmet is essential to achieve this. Suppose you hit another road user or get a little too close to the asphalt, a bike helmet will ensure that the damage is limited. They are also nowhere near as dull as they used to be. You have bike helmets for women and men, and separate children's bike helmets with customised protection. There are also a lot of different models, for different activities. Racing cyclists opt for an aerodynamic, lightweight one. In turn, the everyday (city) cyclist gets to choose from a lot of fashionable helmets, in numerous colours and prints. The choice is yours, as long as it's safe!

A bike helmet for every type of cyclist

A wise cyclist once said: "Safety doesn’t happen by accident." Riding a bike in traffic safely is a conscious decision. It really doesn't matter what your trip looks like. From daily commuting to racking up miles on your race bike, bikepacking with your gravel bike or meandering through the woods on your MTB: a helmet can always save your life when something unexpected happens. Modern bicycle helmets are also equipped with contrivances such as MIPS protection (a rotating system that reduces the impact on your head), built-in lights and reflectors, clear visors, extra vents and even slots to attach your bike lock.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about bike helmets

Wearing a helmet is not compulsory in the Benelux region, as long as you’re not riding a speed pedelec. If you have a speed pedelec with a maximum assisted speed of 45km/h, you need to wear a homologated or moped helmet

Even though ‘regular’ cyclists aren’t required to wear a helmet, it’s still a very good idea. Cyclists are vulnerable road users who always need to watch out for King Car and other hazards. You can fall off in an instant and prevention is always better than cure, right? Find a helmet that you like which fits properly, and arrive at your destination safe and sound!

Your bike helmet needs to fit well both for comfort and safety. Find the right size helmet as follows:

  • Place the end of a tape measure about 2.5 cm above your eyebrows.
  • Measure your head’s circumference and find the corresponding size for a helmet you like.
  • Pick the right size!

Don’t forget to adjust the helmet correctly. It needs to fit well with no gaps. Put it on your head, fasten all the buckles and tighten all the straps. It’s on properly when it doesn’t move forwards or backwards very much!

A good bike helmet fits like a glove. Are you looking for a new one? Answer these four questions to help you choose:

  • Are you a recreational cyclist, a sport cyclist, or do you ride a speed pedelec?
  • What is the circumference of your head?
  • Would you prefer a super-safe or a nice and light helmet?
  • Do you want any extra features such as integrated lights?

What about the speed pedelec?

A speed pedelec is a lot faster than a regular bike. And going from 45 km/h to 0 km/h in a matter of seconds makes for a serious impact. Anyone riding a speed pedelec is therefore required to wear a special bike helmet or moped helmet that meets the EN 1078 standard and adequately protects your temples and the back of your head. Fortunately, A.S.Adventure has thought of everyone and you will also find speed pedelec-proof bike helmets in our range.
