Fleeces

Any lover of the great outdoors should have at least one fleece in their wardrobe. Why? Because a fleece always comes in handy for all activities in colder environments. A fleece keeps you warm, is easy to maintain and easy to store. On top of that, fleece is lighter than wool, and unlike cotton and down, it retains its insulating properties even when wet. There's no more reliable jumper or jacket around! During a trek spanning multiple days in particular, a fleece is a must-have. That's because even if your fleece jacket gets wet, you can count on the fact it will be completely dry and ready to go the next morning. If you ask us, a fleece is an essential element of the tried-and-tested three-layer system.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about fleece

Fleece is made entirely of artificial fibres, so the rules for washing your woolly jumper do not apply to your favourite synthetic warm layer. A few tips:

  • Turn your fleece inside out before putting it in the washing machine. This will keep it in good condition for longer.
  • Use a special wash bag to capture 99% of the tiny microplastics released during the laundry cycle.
  • Do not wash your fleece too often. Airing it in front of an open window can work wonders too.

Fleece comes in different colours, sizes, and above all, types. These three types are the most common:

  • Polar fleece: the traditional fleece most of us are familiar with. If you have a fleece item in your wardrobe, there's a good chance it is made of polar fleece.
  • Coral fleece: a little thicker than polar fleece. Coral fleece feels fluffier than other types.
  • Sherpa fleece: the loops in sherpa fleece are roughly combed to make them fuzzier and softer. Sherpa fleece always has a soft side and a smooth side. For that reason, it is often used as a lining for jackets, for example.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What will you be using your fleece for? During strenuous exercise, you will sweat more, and you'll need a more breathable fleece. In this situation, a fleece with good moisture-regulating capacity is the better option, for example.
  • How warm do you want your fleece to be? Whether you're considering fleece for a crisp summer evening or an ice-cold winter day, A.S.Adventure offers a range of light and heavy fleeces
  • Which extras matter to you? Do you want your fleece to have zips, a hood or thumb holes, for example?
