What types of bikinis are there?

In total, you have a choice between seven models. A brief overview:

  • Halter neck: classic, with a wide band at the neck. If you have a fuller bosom, this model provides plenty of support.
  • Bandeau: a single strip of fabric, (after bandeau in French), without straps or ribbons. This model really suits women with smaller bosoms. Especially one with some padding.
  • Bralette: no underwire, no lining, no padding. The bralette is not pre-shaped. It moulds to the natural shape of your breasts. Ideal for those who have a slightly smaller cup size and do not need extra support.
  • Triangle: literally two triangles covering your breasts. With delicate ribbons that you tie around your neck, this model is perfect for those with a smaller to medium bosom.
  • Underwired: of all the bikinis, the underwired bikini is most similar to a bra, fastening at the neck or behind the back. Thanks to the underwire, this bikini is perfect for larger bosoms.
  • Push-up: could you use some extra padding? If so, the push-up bikini will give you additional shaping.
  • Tankini: can’t choose between a bikini or swimsuit? The tankini offers the best of both worlds.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about bikinis

Which bikini suits me?

Bandeau, bralette or triangle. Underwired or not. With or without straps or in a larger cup size. There are so many types of bikinis to choose from. The most important thing is that your bikini fits perfectly. If it does, you will feel comfortable and radiate self-confidence. These tips will help you find the perfect one:

  • Check if the bikini’s size refers to your cup size or dress size, as this varies from brand to brand. For cup-sized bikinis, it is important to know your exact size. Get measured professionally during a personal shopping session, or use our handy size chart if you prefer to do it yourself. That way, you can be sure you choose the right size.
  • Do you have a fuller bosom? If so, don't choose a bikini with ribbons, they will cut into your skin and you will quickly get back and neck pain. Opt for an underwired bikini with wider straps that offer more support.
  • Do you prefer a classic style? Then opt for a halter neck bikini, which ties behind your neck. Do you have a smaller bosom? If so, try a model with padding.
  • Rather keep it as simple as possible? Then opt for the bralette: no underwire, no lining, no padding. Because the top is not pre-shaped, it moulds to the natural shape of your breasts.

Why does that bright pink bikini look so amazing on your friend, but looks quite pale on you? And how come you invariably reach for blue in the shop? It all depends on your colour type! Some colours just look better on you, depending on your eyes, skin, and hair colour. We differentiate between four types:

  • Winter type: skin with cool undertones, dark eyes and dark hair. This type can handle very bright, vibrant colours.
  • Spring type: skin with warm undertones, light eyes and light hair. Sunny colours like sunshine yellow, tangerine orange and reddish orange will look great on you.
  • Summer type: skin with cool undertones, light eyes and light brown or ash-blonde hair. From lilac to mint green: this type looks pretty in pastels.
  • Autumn type: skin with warm undertones, dark eyes and warm-coloured hair. All colours with a warm glow add sparkle to the warm undertone of your skin. Examples include cognac, aubergine, rust red and ochre yellow.

Don't just hang your bikini up to dry after having fun in the water, give it a thorough wash first. This prevents chlorine or salty seawater from damaging the fabric. Always rinse your bikini in clean, lukewarm tap water.

Then, to fully remove the chlorine from the pool water in your bikini, it is important that you also hand-wash it. Use a mild detergent and lukewarm water. Aggressive detergents and hot water can damage the fabric. Then gently squeeze the water out of your bikini. That way, you won't put unnecessary pressure on the seams. Prefer to use the washing machine? Then wash it on a delicate cycle at the lowest temperature and use a mesh laundry bag.
