A large and small knife, a corkscrew, can opener, screwdriver, bottle opener, wire stripper, tweezers, scissors, fish scaler, ruler… You just have to choose. Need more than ‘just’ a pocket knife? Then there are the Swiss Tools multitools. They are as well-finished as the pocket knives, but feature extra-sturdy pliers.
The design of Victorinox knives is so iconic that you will find it in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Even NASA astronauts carry them. The knives are produced almost entirely in Switzerland. Only the corkscrew comes from Japan, and only because Japanese can harden steel (even) better than the Swiss themselves.
Victorinox is the Original Swiss Army Knife. That means they have been supplied to the Swiss Army since 1891. Success among the general public followed in 1897, when the Elsener family business developed the first Officer’s Knife. That knife was the first with a small blade and corkscrew, becoming the forerunner of what we now know as the classic Swiss pocket knife!
